Just nosin’ around

Nose tackle Sebastian Joseph Day is in the last year of his rookie contract, a time when many players put up a career-high season.  SJD was following that script to the letter, besting his season-high quarterback sack total in just seven games. His 38 tackles in seven games were on pace to place him over 90 tackles for the year, nearly the combined total of his previous two seasons.

In short, he was on pace to be on every NFL team’s radar in the upcoming 2022 NFL Free Agency market. The problem is that seven games do not a season make. Unfortunately, the NFL contract system does not allow an automatic renewal for players who are injured in the last year of their obligation to the team. There are no ‘do-overs’ or mulligans.  So SJD must settle for what he put on the field in those seven games.

Or does he?

Bash is due for a big game

By returning to the LA Rams in time to face the 49ers in the NFC Championship Game, Sebastian Joseph Day has a renewed opportunity to punch his own ticket for 2022 and beyond. If the LA Rams win, and he plays well, the LA Rams will be playing in Super Bowl LVI.  You can bet that all eyes will be on each and every LA Rams player, particularly those who will be testing free agency in a matter of weeks.

If the Rams win, and SJD plays a key role in that victory? Well, his agent’s phone will be ringing off the hook. Stout defensive play in the middle of a 3-4 defensive front is a rare skill set and commands premium compensation in the NFL right now. But SJD is not just a nose tackle. He is a 6-foot-4 310-pound powerhouse who can play any position on a 4-3 or 3-4 defensive front. And he’s just about to turn 27 years old.

I love Bash’s personality. He is the type of guy who will just resonate with the likes of OLB Von Miller, a young man who takes his role with the LA Rams defense seriously, but who is smiling and laughing the entire time. This guy is due for a huge game.
