You can’t go home again…

While the emotional heartstrings are tugging very hard on Von Miller right now, be sure to keep this all in perspective. Things have changed for the Denver Broncos. Things have changed for Von Miller. Over time, we tend to forget the tough times and recollect the positive emotions and events.

But the Broncos have promoted young players, and have hired on a new coaching staff. By all accounts, the team has already closed the door to bringing Von Miller back. After all, for a third-round pick, the team agreed to pay $9 million of his 2021 salary to play for the LA Rams.

Still, Broncos fans remain in disbelief. So much so that Denver Broncos beat reporter Sean Keeler has already written an emotional Welcome back Von Miller and published it, before the Super Bowl has even been played.

But let’s be perfectly clear. Sometimes there really is no going back.

Chapters close, new chapters are written

For those of us who have children but have since divorced, there is a knowledge that you will always love the mother or father of your children. But there is no way you would go back to that relationship once more. It’s a warm, but closed, chapter of your life.

Von Miller may have stated that it’s just a job right now, but that was a moment of nostalgia. He is not just going through the motions for the LA Rams organization. He is giving it his all. Perhaps the feeling of hoisting the Lombardi Trophy next to Aaron Donald, Leonard Floyd, Matthew Stafford, and Odell Beckham Jr. will give him a better feeling of belonging to the Rams family than he has right now.

Super Bowl LVI awaits. After that? He will enter the 2022 NFL Free Agency market. Yes, it’s possible that he could sign with any team in the NFL, including his former team, the Denver Broncos. But I wouldn’t count on that. They’ve already moved on. After SB LVI, he will too.
