Murray was a Pro Bowler?

But perhaps worst of all is the fact that Murray was named to the Pro Bowl ahead of the LA Rams’ own quarterback, Matthew Stafford. Just weeks after that distinction, Murray is described as ‘self-centered, immature, and finger-pointing‘ by members in his own organization. Some kind of Pro Bowl quarterback, eh? But the reality is that the Arizona Cardinals built their roster, and even their coaching staff, to emphasize the strengths of Murray? So now, their only choice is to cut him a bigger check.

Leadership? Taking it to the streets and social media may be the new norm, but it does nothing for me. If I’m an offensive lineman, and my quarterback refuses to take the field at the end of the game in a loss? I’m telling the coaching staff behind closed doors that I want a new quarterback.

It’s not the outcome of the game that defines leadership. Whether it is a game of Playoff football, fighting a forest fire in a remote area of forests, or a military unit that faces overwhelming odds. Leadership is the set of characteristics of making rational decisions regardless of the setting or circumstances.

Call me a hopeless romantic, but self-centeredness and immaturity screams of another gifted NFL quarterback: Jeff George. George exhibited all of these Murray-like qualities, ultimately never finding a permanent home on an NFL team. Teams were drawn to his talent and production. They later regretted signing the player due to the rebelliousness, immaturity, and finger-pointing. Sound familiar?
