Option II: David Edwards

In 2021, Edwards made an appearance at left tackle while Whitworth was on the COVID-19 reserve in the Week 15 contest against the Minnesota Vikings. Because Noteboom was also unavailable for that contest, the Rams opted to line up Edwards at left tackle and use interior offensive lineman Coleman Shelton at left guard. Unfortunately, starting center Brian Allen only lasted 18 offensive snaps, which forced the Rams to return Edwards to his left guard position

The three-year pro played offensive tackle in college at the University of Wisconsin, so the tackle position is not an unfamiliar position for Edwards. His strength is the guard position, starting in 16 of 17 games there last year, but the swing offensive lineman can play tackle if the Rams are uncomfortable with other options to replace Whitworth.

Option III: A.J. Jackson

Some may view where a player is selected in an NFL Draft, and then look no further. Please do not make that mistake when considering just how strong Alaric ‘A.J.” Jackson is as a candidate for the left tackle position. If you recall the LA Rams Week 15 matchup against the dominating pass rush of the Minnesota Vikings, the team had to reshuffle their offensive line configuration when the team faced an injury to Brian Allen, adding him to the bench alongside Noteboom and Whitworth.

In came Jackson, who took over at the offensive left tackle position and played an incredible game. But his spot start performance did not surprise us, as he was already on our radar, along with Tremayne Ancrum, after an outstanding performance in scrimmage work against the Dallas Cowboys. Alaric Jackson shed bad weight in order to get down to a 6-foot-7 285-pound offensive tackle. But he’s been working out to replace the bad with some good. Against the Vikings, he appeared to be nearly at 300 pounds of solid muscle. And he will be that much better this year.

The Rams have a few solid options internally to replace their star-left tackle with, but everyone knows injuries are part of the game. The front office knows that the team can never have enough solid offensive linemen. Currently, there are a few strong left tackles that are still available in free agency that could be cheap additions.
