St. Louis Rams Just Say No......To Jeff Garcia

Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post Dispatch reports that the St. Louis Rams have not been in contact with veteran QB Jeff Garcia.

But it doesn’t look like Garcia, a free agent, is in the plans for St. Louis. Granted, things can change in an instant in the volatile world of free agency. But as of Saturday afternoon, Garcia had not heard from the Rams. And league sources indicated later in the day that the team was not interested.

With the gun shy Marc Bulger, and unproven Brock Berlin as the only two QBs on the Rams roster the thought is they will sign a veteran to push Marc Bulger. However do the Rams really have enough cap room to sign a veteran QB if he is only going to sit on the bench and not really have a shot as the #1? With the Rams coming off a 2-14 season I do not see anyone below that is worth taking a shot on. We are not in a position to pick up a backup that can win a playoff game, we are in position to find our future. These guys are not the future. What are your thoughts?

My thoughts are that Jeff Garcia is a bum.

The Rams could use a solid QB like Garcia at this point. I am not sold on Bulger and Garcia has proven himself to be a strong player who doesn’t throw interceptions.

  • Shaqskanjani

I think the Rams should go and get a QB in the draft,  for sure in the later rounds though because we have way to many holes to fill. I also dont get why the Rams dont take a chance on Ray Lewis so they can move Witherspoon out.

Dustin, I would not say he is a bum but the fact is the Rams need to play for the future. Sure they can win in 2009 butit is not likely and the money can be better spend rebuilding the team with youth, not a player like Garcia. Also the Burger contract almost gaurantees he plays which does suck. They have to find a way to push him but not for 5,6,7, million dollars as the cost.

Dirty Bird – Garcia can’t throw it far enough to get picked off. The Rams need to open and be able to stretch the field with players like Avery and Burton. We don’t need Garcia to win a playoff game we need the Rams to be good enough to just start winning regular season games.

Shaqskanjani – Ray Lewis would cost 10+ mill a year and why would he come to a 2-14 team in the twilight of his career. We are already in position in the 2009 NFL draft to select an LB that can help move Witherspoon back to the outside. The speed of Curry and Witherspoon on the field with the possibility of a strong Safety like James Butler and the defense will look a lot better real fast.

STLVinnie, You need an offensive line that can give a QB enough time to throw deep. So get an offensive line or a short passing game that won’t get your QB killed. I agree that Avery looks like one hell of a receiver.

i agree vinny, take curry……he’s the best prospect, he plays on the D side of the ball, and like the old saying goes, D wins championships

  • http://landryhat davedallasfan

a strong D makes jackson more valuable, it makes your line less vulnerable, and it does’nt need your qb to win games for you. the rams have the tools to be good on O, but need to build the D……right vinny??????

remember spags is now your head coach, he would love to have a lawrence taylor type to rebuild a team around. with long as your pick last year, i’ll bet curry is next?

  • http://ramblinfan.com Stlvinnie

I think Spags is more interested in size and strength. You have to remember a big o-line (Jason Smith) or better receiver (Michael Crabtree) would also make Steven Jackson better. Stay tuned…
