LenDale White Cut Loose By Seahawks

Not much going on in the world of the St. Louis Rams today, but I have to say I was shocked to see that the Seattle Seahawks have released RB LenDale White. I thought LenDale would be revitalized after being reunited with Pete Carroll, whom he played for in college at USC, but obviously it wasn’t working out. The move makes more sense now that it is being reported that he is looking at a four-game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, but I really thought Carroll would have a very long leash with his former player.

Now for the obvious question: Should the Rams give White a look? I have to admit that I’m still a bit undecided on this one. Do I think White would be an upgrade over what we have on the roster? Yes, I do. Do I think he would be a good fit with this team? I’m not so sure on that one. First, I would rather see our backup running back be more of a slasher or a speed guy, which would be a better compliment to Steven. We need a change of pace and a third down back, and White is not fast and he isn’t a great receiver. Still… we could really punish some defenses with Steven and LenDale pounding the ball right at them all day.

The biggest issue here is obviously the suspension and character issues, which I think might be enough to keep the Rams from giving him a serious look. Missing the four games isn’t a huge issue, but we have learned over the last year that Spags wasn’t messing around when he talked about character of his players. White was a bit of a problem in Tennessee, and now he has tested positive for drugs. Once again, if Pete Carroll traded for him and then decided after a few weeks that he doesn’t even want to give him a chance, there has to be something going on there. I wouldn’t expect him to be wearing the horns any time soon, but I guess ya never know. What do you guys think? Do you want LenDale White on our team?
