Rams Interested in Rice

Pro Football Weekly reported earlier today that their “Rams sources” have indicated that the team has at least some interest in Vikings’ wide receiver Sidney Rice should he hit the free agent market. With free agency up in the air right now the Rams can’t do anything, but at least we know they are looking. Rice has shown the ability to be a true number-one talent, but he has been plagued by inconsistency and injury during his NFL career. He missed time last season with a hip injury, but he looked to be healthy at the end of the season.

I’ve made it no secret that I believe this team has to upgrade the receiving corps, but I’m a little hesitant when it comes to Rice. The hip injury scares me a bit, especially considering that our top three receiving talents are all coming off injuries of their own. Add that to the fact that Rice has been inconsistent for much of his career, and I don’t know if this is an investment the Rams need to be making. This team can’t afford any big misses at this point in the rebuilding process, and Rice might just be a little too risky. If he does become an option, which is far from a sure thing at this point, and the Rams do pull the trigger, I certainly won’t be upset or disappointed. I’m just not jumping on the Rice bandwagon yet.
