St. Louis Rams Injury Report: Chris Long Sits Out Practice, Roddy White and Julio Jones Both Probable

The St. Louis Rams look to take on the Atlanta Falcons this afternoon for their first away game of the year. This is a statement game for both teams as the Falcons lost in the final minutes last week to the New Orleans Saints, and with the Rams winning in dramatic fashion against the Arizona Cardinals. A 2-0 start for the Rams would be what a majority of us expected from this young and talented team. So far, the most positive aspect of the 2013 season is that all key players have stayed healthy.

Coming into week two of the young 2013 NFL season the Rams have a few players on the injury report,

The only surprise player on that list is defensive end Chris Long. The second overall pick of the 2008 draft, Chris Long hasn’t missed a game since he was drafted. We can likely assume that Jeff Fisher is merely giving a couple of days off for his veteran defensive end. William Hayes said Chris will be just fine for Sunday.

In other news, Daryl Richardson is listed as probable. Richardson had a noticeable limp during last Sunday’s game, but that didn’t manage to hold him back from staying on the field. Jeff Fisher gave a well-deserved day off for Richardson on Wednesday after getting most of the work from the backfield on Sunday. If Richardson is still feeling the effect of the foot, expect Isaiah Pead to get some work in against the Atlanta Falcons.

It was against the Denver Broncos in week three of the preseason when backup TE Cory Harkey suffered a fractured leg. He has fully recovered and is expected to make his season debut this upcoming Sunday. Harkey’s return adds much needed depth at TE position and he’s arguably the best blocker at that position on the Rams roster.

S Darian Stewart and CB Quinton Pointer are both doubtful for Sunday’s matchup. With the emergence of first year starter Rodney McLeod at safety it seems to be that even if Stewart is healthy, he won’t be hitting the field often, if at all. The Rams have four solid cornerbacks on the roster and Quinton Pointer is projected to be the 5th, but when healthy will only get in on special teams.

As for the Atlanta Falcons injury report, their team is banged up after their brutal loss to Drew Brees and his New Orleans Saints. Six of the 22 starters for the Atlanta Falcons landed on the injury report this week. Some of the big names include: WR Julio Jones, WR Roddy White, and LB Sean Weatherspoon. Both receivers are suffering from lower leg injuries, but don’t be surprised if they’re out there starting the game. Falcons coach Mike Smith confirmed early Friday that Roddy White will indeed play on Sunday. Julio Jones will also be out there playing, but both neither will be 100%.

Other notable injuries for the Falcons are starting LT Sam Baker, CB Asante Samuel, DT Jonathan Babineaux, and S Thomas DeCoud. All five are listed as starters on the depth chart, and all are expects all to start on Sunday.

It’s still early in the season, but a 2-0 start from the St. Louis Rams can show signs of a growing team, however the Falcons will do anything, even starting their injured players, to get their first win of the 2013 campaign.
