At the end of last week Rams defensive end Robert Quinn was up 1.5 sacks on Colts linebacker Robert Mathis. Mathis was given a sack after further looking at the film, putting him only half a sack behind Quinn.

Mathis came up with two sacks against the Jaguars putting him a sack and a half ahead of Quinn going into the Seahawks game in the afternoon. When all was said and done, Quinn only managed one sack and was held many times, failing to win the first Deacon Jones Award.

It was a strong effort from Quinn, who has had a great season breaking franchise records and being named to the Pro Bowl. Quinn will also be in the conversation for defensive player of the year.

There is no denying that Mathis also had a great year as well. Like Quinn Mathis was also named to the Pro Bowl and will be in the conversation for defensive player of the year.

It would have been nice having a Ram win the first Deacon Jones Award, given to the player with the most sacks, but Quinn had a great effort and certainly would have made the Deacon proud.
