Los Angeles Rams head coach Jeff Fisher wasn’t too convincing when he explained why he called two New England Patriots running backs by the wrong names.

Los Angeles Rams head coach Jeff Fisher was forced to answer why he called two New England Patriots running backs by the wrong names – and he didn’t do a very good job.

In a Wednesday conference call with the Patriots’ media outlets, Fisher was asked about the three-headed rushing attack of the Patriots, consisting of LeGarrette Blount, James White and Dion Lewis.

In his answer, Fisher talked about Blount, but also mentioned “Brandon” and “Danny” in his response.

“Brandon” is of course Brandon Bolden, who plays on special teams and has just four touches this season. “Danny” could either be Danny Woodhead, who hasn’t been on the team in two years, or Danny Amendola, who is a receiver and has been an afterthought in New England’s offense this season.

No mention of Lewis or White, though.

Fisher was doing an interview with Steve Mason and D’Marco Farr on ESPN Los Angeles 710 and didn’t exactly do much to dispel the notion he had no idea what he was talking about:

"“I was complimenting the Patriot offense and when I said ‘Danny’ I was referring to Danny Amendola. And I discussed in length my relationship with LeGarrette Blount, with Chris long, with Danny Amendola, and complimented their offense. They have multiple dynamic weapons that we have to contend with.”"

Fisher then went on to say the media is spinning his apparent blunder:

"“You guys understand there’s a lot going on in my day, and this was a commitment that I kept from a conference call standpoint, and if they want to spin it however they want to spin it, that’s fine.”"

Why Jeff Fisher’s Response Makes no Sense

It seems the only spin coming here is from Fisher. He has become the master of spin and excuses for why he fails at so many things as the Rams head coach.

After all, he was asked about the Pats running backs and went off on speaking about a special teams player with one carry in 2016 and a receiver who has four catches on five targets in his last three games.

While he might be able to somewhat save his bacon by talking about Amendola, Fisher still didn’t address why he mentioned Bolden, who isn’t even a kick returner for New England.

It just makes no sense. Fisher didn’t do a very good job of making it look like he knew what he was talking about.

Contrast that with Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, who heaped praise on Rams punter Johnny Hekker and tight end Lance Kendricks, two lesser-known Rams players. I’m not sure if Fisher even knows who the Patriots punter is, to be honest.
