Josh McDaniels Responds to Question About Rams HC Vacancy

Josh McDaniels was asked about the Los Angeles Rams’ head coach vacancy by reporters on Tuesday.

New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels was asked about the Los Angeles Rams’ head coach vacancy on Tuesday.

McDaniels, who was a former offensive coordinator for the Rams under Steve Spagnuolo, had his name come up in the discussion of candidates to replace Jeff Fisher.

As expected, McDaniels wasn’t ready to talk about the job at this time, per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk:

"“I have a short week to get ready for a great opponent and I’m focused on the Broncos,” McDaniels said. “I know there are a lot of things going on out there but my focus and my attention is going to stay right here in the building on the team that we have to get ready for and how we can prepare our team to play the best they can on Sunday.”"

Does Josh McDaniels Want to Be a Head Coach?

Recently there have been rumors circulating that McDaniels has no intention of leaving the Patriots until head coach Bill Belichick retires, but McDaniels has called those rumors “unfounded.”

He has also said he would love a second chance as an NFL head coach, and other reports have suggested he is looking to leave New England to pursue another lead job after the 2016 season concludes.

McDaniels had a brief stint as head coach of the Denver Broncos from 2009 to 2010. He went 8-8 in his first season and was fired before finishing his second after posting a 3-9 record. His time in Denver was ugly, to say the least.

However McDaniels has been praised as the OC in New England time and time again, and he has done a great job in both of his stints with the team. Perhaps a bit more time under Belichick will help him become a better head coach in the future.

On the surface, McDaniels seems like a great fit as an offensive-minded coach who could turn the Rams’ sorry offense around. That would all depend on if he can develop Jared Goff, who has struggled in his first handful of games as a starter.
