Apparently the team’s transition from former head coach Jeff Fisher to interim head coach John Fassel was pretty awkward to say the least.
As it turns out, the man who told John Fassel he was to become the Los Angeles Rams’ interim head coach was Jeff Fisher himself, the man Fassel was to replace.
Furthermore, Fassel never technically accepted the job.
Here’s the entire story from NFL Network’s Mike Silver, followed by a few follow-up questions from us just to clarify:
After firing Jeff Fisher, Rams prez Kevin Demoff announced at a team meeting that John Fassel (also at meeting) would be interim coach...

There'd been a very brief conversation in the hallway between Demoff & Fassel, who actually learned of the team's plans from Fisher...

So, in short, Fisher had relayed the news to Fassel about his temporary promotion, and not Rams COO Kevin Demoff.
From Rams' perspective, the priority was allowing Fisher to say goodbye to his coaches and players, and things got hectic...

Bottom line: It was a wild 30 minutes. Demoff announced to everyone that Fassel was the interim, Fassel nodded & now they're in Seattle...

Just to clarify, we asked Silver a few questions about it just to make sure we had it right.
So Fisher told Fassel he was to be the interim coach?

So that’s the awkward part?
The awkward part is that Fassel never technically accepted

With the way this organization has been run, are we really surprised this ended any other way? The outgoing coach told the new interim coach he was taking over his job, and the interim coach never technically accepted the position.
My head officially hurts.
