New Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay made it clear he’s not ready to give up on former first-round pick Greg Robinson just yet.

After finishing 2016 with a 4-12 record along with finally parting ways with Jeff Fisher at head coach, the Los Angeles Rams have plenty to think about heading into the offseason when it comes to areas in need of improvement, especially on the offensive line. One of the players responsible for the struggles happened to be left tackle Greg Robinson, but that doesn’t mean new head coach Sean McVay is ready to give up on him heading into the 2017 season.

McVay recently made it clear that Robinson is part of the team’s plans moving forward when discussing the former first-round it pick, whether that ends up being at left tackle or a different position on the offensive line. When looking at the fact that Los Angeles ranked last in the league by only averaging 14 points per game, it’s easy to see why there’s been so much frustrating surrounding Robinson and the rest of the unit.

Expectations were high for the Rams at the beginning of the season when it came to improving on offense after Todd Gurley was coming off an impressive first year in which he took home Rookie of the Year honors. Instead of picking up right where he left off, the struggles behind the offensive line were one of the main reasons behind Gurley’s inability to break the 100-yard rushing mark even once during the regular season.

Los Angeles knows the key factor behind their success is going to be getting the most out of their two offensive superstars in Gurley and Jared Goff. Robinson has seen his fair share of struggles over the last two seasons (31 total penalties to lead the league), but there’s a reason why he was heavily praised coming out of Auburn in 2014.

With one year remaining under his rookie contract, here’s to hoping a fresh start with a new coaching staff in McVay and company is just what Robinson needs to finally start living up to his potential. Otherwise, there’s a good chance the Rams will find themselves in a similar position next offseason where they’re trying to figure out ways to improve the offensive line, with Robinson not being part of their future plan.
