Did Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff toss a little shade at Jeff Fisher?

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff may have taken a shot at former coach Jeff Fisher and offensive coordinator Rob Boras. And why not? After a disastrous rookie season that saw him get off to an 0-7 start, a start that saw him look remarkably inept and Ill-qualified, 2017 is beginning noticeably different, and Goff is correct to call last season what it was.

According to those “in the know”, Goff is picking up the offense, and showing a steady sign of improvement that is giving everyone in Los Angeles a bit of hope heading into a new season.

New Rams head coach Sean McVay has brought an offensive mindset to the office, is engaged, and is learning as much about Goff AND Sean Mannion as they are about the LA offense.

In one curious comment, Goff offered some pointed contrast between this offseason and last, via therams.com:

"“It’s a way different offense. Personally, from my brief experience with it. I’ve had a quicker time learning it, easier time learning it.”"

He then offer this nugget:

"“I don’t know whether that’s scheme or the way it’s taught or what not, but I’ve enjoyed spending time with the coaches and picking it up pretty quickly.”"

Noting how things went in Los Angeles last season versus the difference this year, one wonders if the second year quarterback was offering some unsolicited, albeit vague insight into the Rams offensive plight in 2016.

Goff was also quick to comment on how well the staff has managed the workload for both he and Mannion. McVay has been quick to say that if he can make the most difficult position on the field to play easier, he’ll do it. That is something Goff has clearly picked up on.

It’s impossible to say whether his comments were an attempt to throw a little shade at the departed coaching staff, but it does shed some light on what the offensive war-room might have been like for Case Keenum, Goff, and Mannion.

It is also another indication as to why this team struggled so much during the Fisher era.

An era thankfully dead and buried.
