Los Angeles Rams tight ends Tyler Higbee and Gerald Everett seem to have gotten lost in the offseason speculation. But that won’t last long.

Los Angeles Rams post draft analysis pointed to the number of offensive weapons the LA brain trust would acquire for their anemic offense. It was fair analysis. But as the weeks have passed, two guys you don’t hear much off are tight ends Tyler Higbee and Gerald Everett.

That might not be a bad thing, but to know Sean McVay is to know his former Redskins offense utilized the tight end position significantly.

Fans can expect the same in Los Angeles.

Last season in Washington, the Redskins led the league in receiving yards from the tight end position. Both Jordan Reed and Vernon Davis excelled in a McVay offense, and reasonable logic would dictate Higbee and Everett will do the same.

Heading into the 2016 season, hopes were high that Higbee would find a niche in a Jeff Fisher/Rob Boras offense. In his defense, no one could find a niche in that disaster. Higbee would only be targeted 29 times all season long.

That will change in 2017.

Both tight ends excelled at their respective colleges, both are large targets who can stretch the middle part of the field and catch the ball.

Also, both can help Jared Goff and to a significant extent, Todd Gurley and the Rams running game.

Clearly, LA looked to draft targets to help Goff, who needed more help and options. Whether that develops is yet to be seen. But I don’t think the big news this season will be what Rams receivers do, I think it will be how the tight end position evolves, and how critical it became to Goff and the LA offensive attack.

They’ll make some big catches this year and won’t get lost as the position did in the the dysfunction of 2016.

Rams fans will dig that.
