Greg Robinson has been a huge disappointment for the Los Angeles Rams since coming on board in 2014.

Despite three disappointing seasons with the Los Angeles Rams in which he started 42 of 46 games, new head coach Sean McVay seemed to be willing to provide former first-round pick Greg Robinson one final chance to prove himself worthy with the offensive line. Unfortunately for Robinson, it looks like McVay and the rest of the Rams coaching staff had seen enough this offseason after the former Auburn star was traded on Thursday.

Los Angeles dealt Robinson to the Detroit Lions in exchange for a sixth-round pick in 2018, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. For weeks, there’s been speculation that Robinson was going to end up losing his starting job after appearing to slip down the depth chart, and at least with a trade to the Lions, the Rams are able to free up a little cap space ($3.3 million).

Give Los Angeles credit for making the easy decision back at the beginning of May to decline Robinson’s fifth-year option since he’s been one of the most frustrating players to deal with coming on board during the 2014 season. Seeing Robinson struggle to adapt to the NFL level while leading the league with 31 total penalties over the last two seasons is the perfect example of why the Rams have been so frustrated with the offensive tackle, but at least he’s off their hands.

As for the Lions, surrendering a sixth-round pick for a former first rounder who is considered a low risk with the potential of a high reward was clearly a no brainer after losing Taylor Decker to a shoulder injury. But knowing the luck of the Rams, Robinson will probably end up having his best season to date in 2017 now that he’s officially earning a fresh start with a new team.
