The release of Dylan Thompson leaves the Los Angeles Rams with two quarterbacks heading into training camp in Jared Goff and Sean Mannion.

With the Los Angeles Rams wrapping up mandatory minicamp this week, the team has kept themselves busy between worrying about whether Aaron Donald would show up to Thursday’s trade that sent former first-round pick Greg Robinson to the Detroit Lions. However, the one interesting factor to takeaway from the conclusion of minicamp this week is how the Rams only have two quarterbacks on their roster at the moment in Jared Goff and Sean Mannion.

While the Robinson trade was the main headline surrounding Los Angeles on Thursday, the other big story was the release of Dylan Thompson, who was in the middle of his second stint with the team. Thompson was brought on board by the Rams last month to be the No. 3 quarterback after Aaron Murray was waived in the middle of May, but it looks like the team is comfortable enough to stick with just two quarterbacks on the roster heading into training camp.

On the bright side, at least Los Angeles was wise enough to move on from Case Keenum this offseason to give Mannion a chance to prove himself worthy being the backup to Goff. Then again, there’s been speculation over the last few months about how impressive Mannion has looked this offseason, and if Goff’s struggles from his rookie year carry over to 2017, Sean McVay has made it clear he has no problem going with what’s best for the Rams.

Los Angeles may only have two quarterbacks at the moment, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the team at least consider bringing on another veteran between now and the start of training camp just to be safe. Either way, at least with McVay in the picture as head coach, the Rams’ offense should be able to average way more than 14 points per game like they did last year, no matter who ends up calling the shots under center.
