All pro offensive tackle Orlando Pace is out for the season with a torn labrum and torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder. Also, Richie Incognito has aggravated his high ankle sprain and according to STLtoday, he could be sidelined for a couple of weeks. These are huge blows to the Rams offensive front four as they have been pummeled by injuries early in the year. Steven Jackson’s performance obviously will be greatly affected by this injury as Pace has been an essential key to this offensive line.
Coach Linehan hasn’t exposed any details as to what he is going to do about filling Pace’s spot at left tackle but word around the organization is that the Rams head coach is leaning toward inserting right tackle Alex Barron into the left tackle spot.
"“I feel real bad obviously for Orlando,” Linehan said. “He worked very, very hard to get himself back from his triceps injury a year ago. He was probably in the best shape he’s been in in a number of years. We’ll have to pick up the pieces for him as far as our personnel goes in our line. Come next Sunday, we’ll have our best five out there.”"
At this point, I have a hard time seeing the Rams contending with an offensive line missing its two biggest pieces. Steven Jackson and Marc Bulger will really need to try hard to deal with the losses on the line.
