Steven Jackson Wants $20 Million Guaranteed

ProFootballWeekly.com reported yesterday that Steven Jackson is looking for $20 million in guaranteed money.

"Guaranteed money is hang-up in negotiations with Rams holdout RB JacksonEven though the amount he owes the Rams in fines had surpassed the $100,000 mark heading into the weekend, our sources in St. Louis still believe the team isn’t panicking yet over the contract holdout of featured RB Steven Jackson. At this writing, the hang-up in negotiations for a new long-term contract that reportedly would put Jackson among the top five NFL running backs in the payroll department is the amount of guaranteed money the team is willing to pay. Team insiders say Jackson is looking for at least $20 million in guaranteed money, while the Rams have their sights set a bit lower."

If the hold up is only about the guaranteed money I think the St. Louis Rams need to find a way to get the job done. Guaranteed money can be divided by the years of the contract for salary cap numbers. The Rams managed to get Marc Bulger $65 million dollars, so they need to sign their star player, which is Steven Jackson. The Rams continue to have a core and need to build around it. A 25 year old Pro Bowl running back should definitely be at the core of our roster.
