Winners and Losers of Jets-Rams Game
By Ethan Novak
During the St. Louis Rams vs. New York Jets game, there were several players who made a strong impression on head coach Steve Spagnuolo, while some still have a long ways to go. Here is the breakdown:
Winners
Marc Bulger: Many people are calling this the most important season of Bulger’s career. It is the final season in which it would seriously hurt the Ram’s cap to release him, but Bulger so far is showing no signs of being under pressure. The QB went 4/4 for 70 yards and showed a lot of comfortability in the West Coast Offense.
Samkon Gado: I’m the type of guy who’ll admit when I’m wrong. I thought Gado was winding down, and what does he do? Nothing much, just run 77 yards for a TD on his first play from scrimmage. The RB finished with 93 yards on 6 carries.
Laurent Robinson: 2 catches for 52 yards will definitely catch Spagnuolo’s eye, especially when starting receiver Donnie Avery is injured. The only downside one could see from this is that 96% of his total yardage came from one play, but I don’t think we’ll hear anyone complaining.
Josh Brown: That a boy Brown, way to pick up 11 points (3 FG’s, 2 XP’s). You’ll be on my fantasy football team in no time.
Sean Walker: The rookie WR made an unbelievable catch in the endzone to give the Rams the lead in the fourth quarter. Walker’s grab gave fellow rookie QB Keith Null his first touchdown pass.
Jason Smith: 6 years and $61 million has provided us with a solid run blocker and a pretty good pass blocker as advertised last night.
Losers
Kenneth Darby: Listed as Steven Jackson’s backup, Darby struggled to get anything going during the game and also struggled with his blocking assignments. Darby finished with 9 carries for 19 yards in what was a dissapointing day for the running back.
David Roach: Maybe next year kid, the backup safety missed a wrap up tackle on TE Dustin Keller which led to a huge gain for the Jets.
Kyle Boller: Boller struggled to get in a rhythm, going 3/9 for 25 yards
Overall it was a very good game. QB Brock Berlin and OG Jacob Bell both suffered minor injuries. Keith Null had mentor Marc Bulger in awe after his impressive touchdown throw during the 4th quarter. Of course, Bulger made sure someone retreived the ball as a souveneir for the rookie.
