Billy D Brings The Info
By Justin Stine
It was a hot one out there today, but the big boys at Rams Park toughed through it and got their work done on the field. As far as news goes, the best of the day came from GM Billy Devaney on the Bernie Miklasz show this afternoon. Devaney updated everyone on the status of cornerback Ron Bartell, who went down Tuesday with an apparent ankle injury. According to Devaney, the x-rays came back negative and Bartell is only expected to miss a few days. Don’t be shocked if he is out closer to a week for precautionary reasons, but it looks like he will be fine.
Devaney went on to discuss the wide receiver position, which I touched on here yesterday. He talked about Danario Alexander first, and he said the team will stay in touch with Alexander’s agent in the coming weeks. He said the team wants to make sure Alexander is ready to step in and play immediately if the team does bring him in, and he isn’t ready yet. Devaney went on to say that Mardy Gilyard has been impressing with his ability to pick up the offense after getting a late start, and the rest of the receivers have all had their moments.
In the second segment, Devaney talked about Jason Smith getting back on the field this week. Smith would be on the field if it were the regular season, but the team is taking a very cautious approach with last year’s top pick. He should be ready to go full in a few days, and it sounds like the stress fracture in the toe will be fine. We need a big season out of Smith this season, so I’m glad the team is taking it slowly.
There was plenty more said in the interview, so here is a link so everyone can check it out.
