Offseason Preview: Wide Receiver

For the next couple of weeks I will be looking at some possible options for the Rams to take a look at this offseason. Since many people believe wide receiver is the most glaring need on this team, I thought that would be a good place to start. Here are some names I believe the Rams need to check out over the next few months.

Braylon Edwards – I have to admit that I’m a little biased here, because I’m a huge Michigan fan and a huge Edwards fan. He is a big receiver who has proven in the past that he brings to the table exactly what the Rams need: a big play threat who can stretch the field. There are plenty of question marks with Edwards, including dropped passes and character issues, but I’m of the belief that the talent Edwards possesses would be perfect for this team. Vincent Jackson – Anyone who reads this blog regularly knows how hard I campaigned for the Rams to trade for Jackson earlier this season, so it stands to reason that I would encourage the team to take another look at him this offseason. He has character questions just like Edwards, but he also brings many of the same attributes to the table.

Sidney Rice – I have heard Rice’s name in connection with the Rams more than anyone else on this list, and I wouldn’t mind seeing him as a part of this team next season. He is coming off injury, which could scare the Rams off a bit, but there’s no question he has the talent to make this offense much better when healthy.

James Jones – This is the guy I’m really starting to like. He has flown under the radar a bit in Green Bay, but he has the potential to be an excellent starting receiver in this league. He is a great athlete, and he has good size and strength. He suffers from dropped passes a little bit, which is a concern, but he could be a very nice upgrade for a more reasonable price than some of the players listed above.
