New Momentum On Deal
By Justin Stine
First of all, let me say that I will be heading out of town to Cincinnati for Cardinals-Reds this weekend for a bachelor party, but I will try my best to post while I’m gone, especially considering the news to come from lockout negotiations today. According to pretty much every source I can find, the players and owners shocked the world on Thursday as the two sides apparently agreed on a rookie wage scale and are now as close as they have ever been to a deal. ESPN’s Chris Mortensen thinks we could have a deal in the next 24-48 hours, and Sal Paolantonio thinks the deal in now on a fast track.
Well, where did this come from? You got me. Every report before today pretty much said that things were not going well, so it’s amazing to me that all of a sudden the two sides are on the same page. It’s hard not to believe what all of these insiders are saying, but as I said in a previous post, I’m back in cynical mode so I’m not buying in just yet. My hopes have been raised too many times during this thing, so I’m not going to feel better until a deal is actually in place. I would advise the less pessimistic of you to be very excited about today’s developments, but I just can’t handle another heartbreak.
