Well it was an awfully big day at Rams Park on Monday, which is almost never the case especially after a 24-3 loss. The Rams announced that they traded a conditional sixth-round pick to the Denver Broncos in exchange for WR Brandon Lloyd. First of all, let me say that I heard the rumors about this for a few days, but like almost every other rumor, I assumed nothing would come of it.
Now I’m not going to say that Lloyd is going to turn this whole thing around and that we are playoff bound now, but how can you not like this move? We get a guy who led the league in receiving last season under Josh McDaniels, and we gave up a meaningless (for the Rams with the way they draft, at least) late pick to get him. It’s a no-lose scenario. If he comes in and doesn’t do anything, we lost a low-value pick. If he comes in and does a great job, we lose a fifth-round pick instead (the condition is 30 receptions for the rest of the season) but it will be undoubtedly worth it. He knows the offense already, and he probably knows it better than most of the guys already on the team. Again, let’s not get crazy about it, but Rams fans have to be happy not only with the deal, but with the fact that the front office has not mailed it in yet and are still trying to improve. Bradford injury and more on next page…
