Last week, the Arizona Cardinals gave the St. Louis Rams a taste of the NFC West, facing off against a predictably strong defense and a surprisingly efficient offense. This week, the Rams will have an even bigger challenger, taking on an NFC “favorite”; the Atlanta Falcons. Not only will the Rams be underdogs in the matchup on Sunday, it will also be the first time that St. Louis will play against Steven Jackson, the leader in nearly every rushing category in Rams’ franchise history.
For the game, the St. Louis Rams should be fully stocked, with all weapons available to take on the not-so-stout Falcons’ defense.
RB Daryl Richardson is the only name of interest on the injury report. However, Jeff Fisher insisted that Richardson simply “needed a day off” and would be ready to suit up on Sunday. The Rams new running back injured his foot early in game against the Cardinals, but continued on the field after being spelled by Zac Stacy for only a handful of plays.
S Darian Stewart and CB Quinton Pointer were both listed as well, but with the solid play of Rodney McLeod last Sunday, it is doubtful that Stewart would automatically supplant the second-year safety on the depth chart. Pointer did participate in some drills, but will likely not make the game-day roster against Atlanta, regardless of whether or not he practices.
In brighter news, TE Cory Harkey was a full go at practice yesterday, returning from a slight leg fracture sustaining in Week 3 against the Denver Broncos. His spot on the active roster is still up in the air, especially with the healthy return of Lance Kendricks to the squad.
For the Atlanta Falcons, the injury report is much more ominous, with a handful of superstars manning the front page. Both Julio Jones and Roddy White did not practice yesterday, ailing from a knee injury and ankle injury, respectively. Falcons head coach, Mike Smith, expressed yesterday that he expected Roddy White to play on Sunday against the Rams.
Other injuries include, DT Jonathan Babineaux and OT Sam Baker, both missing practicing on Wednesday. There were also a handful of players who were “limited” at practice, including S Thomas DeCoud, DT Peria Jerry, LB Sean Weatherspoon, DE Cliff Matthews, and CB Asante Samuel.
