Rams Sign Quarterbacks Austin Davis and Brady Quinn

“We will rally around Kellen Clemons and we will play good football.” Those are the famous wrods of Dick Vermeil when the Rams were forced to play Kurt Warner back in 1999. It just doesnt have the same ring to it though, does it?

Earlier today the Rams worked out Ausin Davis, Brady Quinn, and Tyler Thigpen to play the back up role to Kellen Clemons. When the day was over the Rams sent home Thigpen and decided to sign Davis and Thigpen.

Due to Sam Bradford’s season ending injury the Rams have been put in a vert difficult situation. The Rams have been forced to work out the “hand me downs” of quarterbacks and they have finally picked through and found the best of the worst.

The signing of Davis should come as no surprise. Davis has history with the Rams and has familiarity with the players and system. Before the season is over it would not be surprising if Davis is actually starting for the Rams.

Coming into the season Davis was battling for the back up role with Kellen Clemons throughout the preseason and eventually lost out in a very close competition.

Brady Quinn is a former first round pick of the Cleveland Browns, but has been nothing but disappointing. He has that “bust” label written all over him. Quinn recently spent time with the Seattle Seahawks and New York Jets post Brian Schottenheimer, but was recently cut by the Jets to keep David Garaard.

Quinn will more than likely just be the third string emergency quarterback for the Rams although dont count him out on starting toward the end of the season. It is highly unlikely, but dont rule it out.

In a quarterback driven league it’s never good to have questions surrounding the quarterback position, but that’s exactly what the Rams are experiencing. This season will be a good character building experience for the Rams young players and get them much needed experience. Other than that though there really isnt a whole lot of positives in this disappointing situation.
