After months of waiting, the St. Louis Rams have finally made their selection. With the second overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft the St. Louis Rams selected offensive lineman Greg Robinson out of Auburn.

The Houston Texans took Jadeveon Clowney to no surprise with the first overall selection, therefore the Rams were unfortunately unable to trade down. However, they still will get a franchise offensive lineman in the process.

This is the first offensive lineman that Jeff Fisher has ever taken in the first round of a draft, finally the infamous streak is over. Robinson is a big body that the Rams will most likely move inside to guard to start and will help push bodies for Zac Stacy in the run game. The plan will then be to move him to the outside at tackle in a year or two.

It was originally thought that maybe the Rams would go with Jake Matthews, with Fishers ties with the Matthews family, but Robinson fits exactly what the Rams want to do on offense and in the run game.

Robinson is a little behind when it comes to pass protection, but Robinson is a great athlete and he should be able to adjust just fine.

Nolan Nawrocki of nfl.com had this to say about Robinson,

“Big, strong, athletic, overpowering left tackle with the raw potential to become a premiere, franchise left tackle. Is only a third-year sophomore and two-year starter and still must improve his hand use, footwork and technique. However, he is undeniably gifted and capable of walking into a starting-left-tackle job in the pros and paving the way in the run game.”

Robinson made his way up draft boards over the past month. He was always one of the best offensive lineman is this year’s draft, but he has solidified himself as the best being taken number two overall.  Hopefully Robinson becomes the Orlando Pace of the Rams offensive line.

Nobody can be more happy about this pick than Sam Bradford. The Rams finally have given him some decent protection which is just what Bradford needed to prove he is the guy in St. Louis.
