Aside from the start of “real” football, one of the most exciting happenings in August is the annual release of the newest installment in the Madden series. Over the last month, EA Sports has been teasing the diehard fans with some reveals of the top players at each position in the upcoming game. To start, they released the “top rookies,” which included a number of St. Louis Rams draftees. Offensive line prodigy, Greg Robinson, ranked No.2 among rookies in their Madden 15 reveal, sporting the 3rd-best run blocking rating among all guards, as well as claiming one of the top speed/acceleration combo ratings among all offensive linemen. Aaron Donald, the No.13 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, ranks out at No.7 among rookies. Donald is not only rated as the highest first-year defensive tackle in the game, but will also have the fastest speed rating among all interior defensive linemen in Madden 15.

Since then, EA has released their Top 5 payers for a number of positions, including offensive line, quarterback, and several of the skill positions. Sadly, there are no St. Louis Rams players on those lists. However, today, they unveiled the Top Defensive Ends for the upcoming game. Guess who made that list…

Robert Quinn, the reining Professional Football Writers of America’s Defensive Player of the Year, comes it at No.2 on their list of defensive ends, trailing only the Houston Texans’ behemoth bookend, J.J. Watt. With a 97 overall rating, Quinn easily tops all 4-3 defensive ends in the game, tagged with a 84 speed, 95 acceleration, and crazy-high 97 power moves rating.

To demonstrate just how much a player can “change” in one year, Quinn sported a mediocre 78 overall rating in Madden 25, with slightly above-average ratings in speed and agility, and abysmal ratings in finesse moves and tackling. Assuming there are no surprises in Madden 15, Quinn will jump from being the ranked as the 16th-best player on the St. Louis Rams roster last season (sandwiched between Lance Kendricks and Greg Zuerlein) to easily the No.1 player on the squad.

Shout out to EA Sports for finally recognizing the greatest of Robert Quinn. We all know who we’ll be playing as when the Rams are on defense this year…
