2. The obvious follow-up question is: do the Rams continue to start Austin Davis for the foreseeable future, or should they turn back to Shaun Hill as soon as he is healthy enough to start?

Blaine G.: They better keep going with Davis. This team rallied around him. Austin Davis did something that Sam Bradford and Shaun Hill haven’t done, and thats show emotion and I think the offense really responded well to that. Until Davis proves otherwise he needs to be the starter of this team.

Nathan K.: They should turn back to Shaun Hill once he is healthy, and I believe they will. However, based on the pressers this week, that will likely not happen until after the Bye, with Hill still limited during the end-of-the-week practices. There is a reason Shaun Hill has been in the NFL for over a decade. He is (obviously) more experienced, including managing the offense and reading defensive schemes. He showed during the preseason that he was the superior decision maker. Most importantly, aside from overall arm strength, Hill is the better arm talent, displaying excellent accuracy, timing, and the rare ability to “throw his receiver open.” While I understand those that want to “see what we have,” I’d prefer to avoid experimenting and play the better quarterback…

Anthony K.: Absolutely and without ANY doubts. With Shaun Hill still limited and a bye coming up in week 4, the Rams HAVE to start Austin Davis this week against the Cowboys. Depending on how he plays and the outcome of the game, the Rams will have two weeks to evaluate their quarterback situation and the direction of the team heading into a brutal stretch of games. Unless Davis bombs against the Cowboys, I think Jeff Fisher has to seriously consider keeping Davis as the Rams’ starter. The kid showed poise, toughness, arm strength, and passion against Tampa Bay–and those are things we haven’t seen in quite a while from a Rams quarterback.
