Tre Mason Nominated for the Pepsi Rookie Of The Week

St. Louis Rams third round draft pick, running back Tre Mason, has been nominated for the Pepsi Rookie of the Week after rushing for 85 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries in Sunday’s 28-26 win over  the Seattle Seahawks.

After seeing his first action only the week before against the San Francisco 49ers, Mason earned the right to remain active for the second straight week after rushing for 40 yards on only five carries against the division rival on Monday Night Football.

What some might not have expected was for Mason to get the  bulk of the carries rather than 2013 standout rookie Zac Stacy. Mason sealed the win for the Rams by getting the final first down in the fourth quarter despite almost fumbling the ball away.

Also in the running for rookie of the week are Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins, Jaguars linebacker Telvin Smith, Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham, and Redskins cornerback Bashaud Breeland. If Mason were to win the rookie of the week it would be the third consecutive week that a running back won the award.

Mason is the second Ram to be nominated for the award this season. Cornerback E.J. Gaines was nominated back in week five, however it was running back Brandon Oliver who came out on top.
