Four Players To Watch At The Senior Bowl

This afternoon at 4PM ET, the Senior Bowl will get underway in which all of the nation’s the best NFL Draft prospects of those collegiate players who have completed their eligibility will go head to head.

The St. Louis Rams have been pretty active at the Senior Bowl getting interviews with seven different players including:

Clemson ILB Stephone Anthony

Ohio State WR Devin Smith

Harvard LB Zack Hodges

Alabama OL Austin Shepherd

Oklahoma LB Geno Grissom

Texas LB Jordan Hicks

While those names will surely be players to watch in this weekends only all-star game in which the players will be trying, here are some other names to keep an eye on.

OL La’el Collins, LSU

Given the potential for uncertainty basically everywhere on the offensive line with Joe Barksdale,  Jake Long, and Davin Joseph, the Rams are in need of offensive line.

Collins would make an ideal fit for the Rams because he can play guard and tackle if thats what he was asked to do. Collins was a three-year starter for the Tigers with one of those years at left guard and the past two as a left tackle.

One player that has been connected to the Rams in mock drafts is T.J. Clemmings. While Clemmings has potential, Collins is more polished. His  versatility could make him a perfect option for the Rams in the first round.

QB Bryce Petty

The Rams need a quarterback who can compete with Sam Bradford in 2015, and Petty could just be that guy. Petty has dominated college football over the past two seasons.

There are some questions about his accuracy, but he has ideal size and has all the intangibles to make a good starting quarterback in the NFL.

Playing at Baylor in the Big-12, Petty didnt have a lot of good defensive competition, he did beat TCU 61-58, and played in a one-read, spread system.

Today’s game will be a big test for Petty. If he plays well, he could be a lock for the third round.

OG Tre Jackson, Florida State

The Rams dealt with Davin Joseph on the inside last season, and if they have to go through an experience like that again, Bradford won’t make it through the year.

Jackson, could very well be the best guard in the 2015 draft. He is an absolute monster on the inside as he is listed at 6-4, 330 pounds.

He isn’t likely to be a first-round pick, but he could go in the second or third round at the latest.

The Rams need to beef up the o-line, making Jackson a perfect fit if he continues to play well and shows what he can do against good competition. Jackson was a three-year starter at right guard and earned  All American honors for the Seminoles.

QB Sean Mannion, Oregon State

Because the Rams are so quarterback and offensive line needy, I might as well stick to that theme. While Petty may have had the better college career and more people will know him because of the numbers he put up, Mannion is another quarterback to watch.

Mannion is the most NFL-ready quarterback at the Senior Bowl being that he played in a pro-style offense in college. He has ideal size at 6-5, 229-lbs big and is a strong-armed pocket passer.

Not a first round pick, but he could be one of those players that the Rams target in the middle rounds to compete with Bradford.
