St. Louis Rams “Leading Contender” To Land Quarterback Nick Foles
The St. Louis Rams have been attached to quite a few trade rumors regarding the quarterback position as of late, and until they get Sam Bradford figured out, it isn’t going to stop.
Those rumors continued on Monday when Benjamin Allbright reported that the Rams were the “leading contender” to land Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles.
While this rumor isn’t coming from a so-called major media guy, Benjamin Allbright, who is a Denver-based radio host, supposedly has good connections within the Rams organization and has been right about them in the past.
Monday afternoon, Albright had this to say about the Rams and Foles:
Greg Arias, who has covered the Titans since 2002 for the TitanRedzone.com seemed to backup Allbright’s speculation:
Earlier on Monday, Eliot Shorr-Parks reported that the Eagles shopped the Nick Foles at this year’s Senior Bowl. One of the three teams reportedly interested in Foles was the Rams.
This happens to be consistent with another NJ.com report from back in January that St. Louis is interested in the Eagles quarterback. There’s nothing official here yet, but it does sound like there could be some legitimacy to this story.
Foles offers a real capability to have an alternative option to Bradford in the case that the Rams want to move on from the quarterback. In 2013, Foles threw 27 TDs and just 2 interceptions, but struggled in 2014 due to offensive line injuries and a struggling running game.
Trading for Foles and releasing Bradford would save the Rams a lot of cap space, they would just have to secure Foles then to a multi-year deal as the Eagles quarterback is going into the final year of his contract.
Meanwhile the Eagles secured Mark Sanchez to a two-year deal and have been speculated to do whatever it takes to trade up and land Marcus Mariota. If swapping first round draft picks and Foles is what it takes to get Chip Kelly closer to his Oregon quarterback, then that’s what they’re going to do.
The Rams have yet to make much noise this offseason, luckily small-market media guys and other teams are making the noise for them.
