Have The St. Louis Rams Gotten Better In Free Agency?

The St. Louis Rams have not been the most active team in free agency, but that doesn’t mean they haven’t made any solid moves that will have an impact on the team.

While they have made moves like bringing back Kenny Britt and signing Nick Fairley, the Rams haven’t done all that much which is concerning especially given their needs on the offensive line. Aside from signing Garrett Reynolds the St. Louis Rams haven’t done much to address that need.

With all of that said, have the Rams gotten better this free agency?

Many were expecting the Rams to heavily pursue offensive linemen, as that was clearly the team’s greatest need entering the offseason. There’s still time remaining, but the Rams have done little to address the line.

With the amount of cap space that the Rams had, the fact that they haven’t signed any offensive line aside from a depth guy is concerning.

To say that the Rams have gotten better in the last two weeks would be stretching the truth to say the least. In fact you could argue that they have gotten worse.

To start the free agency the period, the Rams at least had some sort of offensive line going into next season. Sure, you could say that releasing Scott Wells and Jake Long were necessary, but what have the Rams done to replace them?

With Stefen Wisniewski out on the market as well as solid veteran players like Justin Blalock and Joe Barksdale also available you have to wonder why the Rams haven’t brought any of them in. Aside from a few rumors about the Rams being interested, there have been no visits or serious effort made to bring in any of these three players that would help the Rams’ problem up front.

Where the Rams did get better is one spot in which they really didnt need to get better and that’s on the defensive line with the signing of Fairley. The Rams signed a player to add depth to the defensive line after cutting Kendall Langford.

There is no question that Fairley is a good player, but he is presumably taking over Langford’s role who played only  27.6 snaps per game after the emergence of defensive rookie of the year Aaron Donald.

The good news with this move is that the Rams have one of the best and deepest defensive lines in football. The bad news, the defensive line doesn’t score touchdowns or protect the quarterback.

The Rams then made good moves by retaining Kenny Britt and Lance Kendricks. While those were good moves, it didnt necessarily make the team better, it only prevented them from getting worse.

The Rams have made some moves in free agency, unfortunately, at the end of the day, it’s hard to say the team has actually gotten better over the past two weeks.
