WR Britt looking to retake role as Rams number one option
By Zach White
It has been very evident that the St. Louis Rams have had their work cut out for them on offense this year, especially the past two games. The Rams had a total of 258 yards vs. the Steelers and that just isn’t going to cut it. Jeff Fisher has made it clear that he wants to run the ball, but when you average 3.9 yards per carry, it’s going to be tough to go along with your game plan.

Which brings me to my point. The thing that caught many people’s eyes on Sunday was the play of Kenny Britt. Britt racked up a total of 102 yards on seven catches on Sunday and he should emerge as Nick Foles’s main target from here on out.
Britt accounted for 748 receiving yards last year to lead the Rams. Which is a big deal because the Rams haven’t had a 700 yard receiver since Torry Holt in 2008. Britt was a very productive player for the Rams with subpar talent at the quarterback position rolling through Shuan Hill and Austin Davis. Now with Foles, Britt might be on the verge of becoming one of the premier players on the St. Louis roster.
Britt is an spry 6’3″ 223lbs. He’s a big body receiver that quarterbacks would love to have. You saw in Sunday’s game against the Steelers that Foles looked to Britt early and often. Even on the biggest play of the game, Foles looked towards Britt and gave him a chance to make a play. Foles is averaging 29 pass attempts per game. This is something to think about when it comes to Britt and his possible production going forward.
Britt was targeted 10 times on Sunday, making that his highest total of the year so far. This came after the game against the Washington Redskins where Britt had a 40 yard TD reception. Foles likes to throw deep and Britt will make his life that much easier because Britt can play the ball in the air with just about anyone in the NFL.

Britt was often in press man-to-man coverage on Sunday and he was able to get great releases off the line of scrimmage and get open for Foles to give him the ball.
Britt is practically a tight end playing wide receiver and as much as Foles has targeted the Rams tight ends, expect him to keep looking towards Britt’s way more often. The Rams need to keep Britt involved in the offense a lot more and if Sunday is something to foreshadow the future, expect Britt to be the leading wide receiver on the Rams for the second straight year.
Kenny Britt is a weapon the Rams absolutely cashed in on last year. He might’ve even been one of the best free agent signings in the NFL. The Rams need to take full advantage of his presence on the field and as you could tell on Sunday, Britt makes defensive backs life very difficult.
