St. Louis Rams Coach Jeff Fisher: No interest in trading Jared Cook

The St. Louis Rams are searching for an explosive passing game, and tight end Jared Cook may still be apart of it as for right now. On Sunday, two sources came out that Cook could be available for trade; however, they are under certain circumstances. At CBSSports.com, Jason La Canfora wrote that other teams have inquired about Cook’s availability. On the flip side, ProFootballTalk.com says it’s the other way around and the Rams are making the calls to teams in hopes of trading away Cook. Either way, Cook looked to be on the trading block, until head coach Jeff Fisher broke the silence. Looks as if the Rams will continue to wait for Jared Cook to have his breakout season.

Fisher said via the teams official website

"We take calls all the time. People call. People have injuries. People have interest. That happens all of the time. I have no interest in trading Jared. He’s a big part of our offense. I don’t know where that originated from or came from. I clearly wasn’t aware of it,”"

If the Rams are going to make any trades, they need to do so by Tuesday November 3rd, but by looks of it, Cook is staying put. In his 3rd season with the Rams, Fisher was hoping for an explosive tight end to be known in his offense, yet Cook has only managed 15 catches for 169 yards. Cook totaled a combined 132 yards in the first two games, yet has hit rock bottom since the start of the season. Cook was signed and originally to play more of a wide-open offense, yet Cook has not been used that way. However when he has been used in those certain plays, dropping wide open passes accounts to the reasoning why the Rams are not using him as much.

Another key factor is the fairly nice and large four-year deal they gave other tight end Lance Kendricks this past offseason. When Cooks joined the Rams in 2013, Kendricks role was shut down only a little. Since 2013, Cook has eight touchdowns, better yet Kendricks has 10 touchdowns. Give Kendricks more opportunities and he will shine. Fisher continued to talk about the trade speculation.

"“He’s not the only person that people called us about last week,” Fisher added. “There’s injuries. We’re not to the trading deadline. People have interest in players. This day in age they’ve got more information. If they sense that some players that you have may fit their system, they’re going to call. You either say yes or no.”"

If the Rams do eventually try to trade Cook, finding another team to take the 7-year veteran could be tough. Cook has two years worth $7 million a season left on his deal after 2015. However all of his money is guaranteed. Fisher once told the fans that “Sam Bradford is our quarterback” so I’m not buying any of Cook staying in St. Louis. The Rams do lack the offensive fire power, and if Cook did come out of the bye week as a new tight end, it may be valuable to have both Cook and Kendricks as weapons for Foles. Whatever it may be, Jared Cook needs to step up this weekend against the Cleveland Browns, or else he may be packing his bags.
