St. Louis Rams making mistakes, losing 24-10 at halftime

The (4-4) St. Louis Rams are currently battling the (3-5) Chicago Bears in the Edward Jones Dome, and the Rams game plan is not quite working so far. The Rams looked to have a chip on their shoulders on their opening drive from the heart breaking loss to the Vikings, as they put together probably one of the best drives of the season. The Rams opened up with a great pass protection for Nick Foles as he connected with TE Jared Cook for a 29 yard gain. From then on, it was all Todd Gurley. Gurley would rush it in from six yards out to give the Rams an early 7-0 lead in the 1st quarter. Gurley would total 20 rushing and 31 receiving yards on the opening drive.

However the celebration was all but short-lived, as the Bears would respond to tie the game in 51 seconds. Quarterback Jay Cutler would connect with TE Zach Miller for a 87 touchdown pass, that would include horrible tackling from the Rams. St. Louis could have easily stopped Miller for around a 8 yard gain, yet multiple missed tackles gave Miller space for yards after the catch.

St. Louis would not respond after the Bears touchdown, but special teams player Bradley Marquez would come up big on a huge tackle as he forced a fumble on the punt and the Rams took over on the Bears 17 yard line. Wes Welker would get his first Rams catch this season on third down, but was short about two yards for the 1st down. Rams ended up kicking a field goal, and took the lead 10-7.

St. Louis would take the lead on a mistake by the Bears, unfortunately the Rams lead would once again by gone in 52 seconds. Running back Tre Mason would get his first touch of the day, and would fumble to give the Bears once again great field possession in Rams territory. With the best red zone defense in the league, the Rams would hold the Bears to only a field goal, and it would be all tied up at 10. After the field goal the Rams offense would continue to struggle, and the Bears would continue to dominate.

Very next drive, the Rams would go minus eight yards in three plays and punt the ball. Nick Foles still has not found himself a good rhythm since Week 1. The Bears would continue to attack the Rams defense, and made it look easy. Chicago would put together a 12 play, 65 yard touchdown drive that would eat up 7 minutes. After a questionable call, Zach Miller scores his second TD of the game, and the Rams would be down by 7. The bleeding would not stop for the Rams.

St. Louis offense would continue to struggle, as both the passing and running game has been gone since the first drive. Rams would go three and out and only gain one yard in three plays. The Bears would not need another seven mintue touchdown drive, as this time around they would only need another 52 seconds. A great play call, and excellent blocking on a running back screen gave Jay Cutler time to pass to Jeremy Langford for a 83 yard touchdown pass. Bears would lead 24-10 near the halfway mark of the 2nd quarter. Nothing else would come in the last five minutes in the 2nd quarter as the Bears are currently giving it to the Rams.

Rams defense and offense both making mistakes, and now they now find themselves in a huge hole. Rams offense is currently 1-7 on third down conversations, as Foles is struggling. Can the Rams make the comeback? Or will St. Louis continue to fall apart in the second half?

Halftime Stats: QB Nick Foles 9-20 (100 yards) RB Todd Gurley 8 carries, 28 yards, 44 receiving yards, TD
