With the losses up front, St. Louis was forced to make some roster moves on Tuesday, The Rams promoted Isaiah Battle, their selection in this year’s supplemental draft, to the active roster and signed Eric Kush and Brian Folkerts. In addition to the signings, defensive tackle Doug Worthington was released to free up space on the roster.

St. Louis opted to sign Foles to an extension this offseason as opposed to letting him play out the final year of his rookie deal. That rookie deal would have paid him in the area of $1.5 million for the season. The extension the Rams gave him will pay him close to $6 million this year and close to $10 million in 2016. That type of commitment isn’t taken lightly and is a good indicator Foles will be back under center at some point this season.

Similar to the situation last year when Austin Davis took over for then starter Shaun Hill. Fisher looked upon Davis as the wake up call the Rams needed. Unfortunately for them, Davis was 3-5 in the eight games he started and was eventually replaced by Hill. The intentions were there, but the talent wasn’t. We might expect a similar situation here with Keenum and Foles.

Fisher understands it’s win now or risk not having a job come February, so the leash on Keenum will be short. Fisher will give Keenum his chances, but don’t expect Fisher to wait for this potential wave to come crashing down like he did with Davis. Fisher will ride the energy for as long, or as little, as it lasts.

If there is one painfully obvious reality in all of this, it is that St. Louis is still searching for “their” guy at the quarterback position. Foles got his extension, but after 2016, the Rams don’t have much money committed to him, so seeing him walk is a possibility. Keenum has provided very little in his short NFL experience to have much faith in, and rookie Sean Mannion isn’t quite there yet. The Rams failure to address the quarterback position has left them in a tough spot.

Keenum might be the spark they need to compete for a postseason birth, but he isn’t the long-term answer. Until St. Louis can figure that out, they will continue to toil in NFL purgatory.
