Quarterback
I’m not going to bash Rams backup QB Case Keenum for the disaster that happened on the field in Baltimore. There is no reason this change should have occurred in the first choice. As I stated in my Week 11 predictions, benching Nick Foles was not going to solve your offensive woes. We’ll get to this more when we grade the coaching staff. When all is said and done, Keenum threw for 136 yards and 1 touchdown for the Rams. Outside of the Rams first drive, he consistently looked uncomfortable in the pocket, even when he had all the time in the world to make a pass. It was also evident that Case just does not have the arm of a starting NFL Quarterback.
12/26 is not a stellar day for a quarterback, but the guy did all he could. He was put into an unfair position, with a pitiful game plan. The main area that hurts Keenum’s grade was his three fumbles and two lost fumbles on the day. Whether you are a backup or a starter in this league, you have to protect the ball. The final fumble of the game sealed the victory for the Ravens and that was that. Once again though, this should be chalked up to bad coaching and a complete breakdown of the concussion protocol set up by the NFL.
Jeff Fisher, the Rams organization, and the NFL should be ashamed of themselves that they allowed Keenum to remain in the game, when he could barely stand-up on his two feet after violently hitting his head on the ground. Overall, I give Keenum a C+ for his effort today.
