The iconic wordsmith, Yogi Berra once said, “It’s like déjà vu all over again”. Tell me about it, Yogi. It seems like year in and year out, we Rams fans continuously watch a pitiful team get our hopes up, only to see our ambitious optimism shattered by Week 9. At least each season there is a different scapegoat. At a minimum, that keeps things interesting. For those of you who are just joining my bandwagon of pessimism, here is a quick look back at what I am referring to:
2010:
Sam Bradford is taken as the number one overall pick in the NFL Draft. The team finishes 7-9, just missing a playoff berth due to a late season collapse in the final game of the year at Seattle. Good news, we have our franchise quarterback! Everything is swell in the STL. We didn’t quite do it this year, but we were awfully close, don’t worry, we’ll be better next year!
2011:
No much to say here. The Rams finish 2-14, which was good for last place in the NFC West. Sam Bradford sure doesn’t look as good as we thought he was going to. What the heck, it’s a sophomore slump, who cares if it was the worst offense in the league and Bradford barely completed 50% of his passes. Let’s fire the coach and general manager, we’ll rebuild and everything will be fine! We got this. Don’t worry, St. Louis. We will have a winner on the field again in no time. Just you wait and see.
