Did the Los Angeles Rams have the best draft?
By T.J. Randall
The Rams originally had the 113th pick, but chose to trade with the Bears, a smart move that netted them another pick and a value selection as Cooper was high on their board and figured he would be there four picks later. Despite being a slot player like Tavon Austin, Cooper offers something of a compliment as a more refined route runner than Austin was coming out of West Virginia. Cooper has worked all three levels of the field and ran a more extended route tree, hauling in 66 passes for 973 yards and eight touchdowns while rushing for 111 yards and a touchdown despite playing with three different quarterbacks and even playing wildcat quarterback himself. He has a chance to work himself into the Rams’ fourth option and create mismatches opposite Austin or on the same side in trips formations; his shiftiness and speed underneath and over the top will rival that of Austin’s. Return experience, a large catch radius, and the ability to fight for extra yards after the catch make Cooper an intriguing prospect who I had as a 2nd-3rd round grade.
