In his first season in the league, Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley turned out to be quite the surprise for fantasy football owners after rushing for 1,106 yards to go along with 10 touchdowns in just 13 games. With these types of numbers, expectations are going to be high for Gurley heading into his second season and while there’s no question the Rams breakout star will be one of the top running backs selected in fantasy football leagues, the former Georgia star believes he’s worthy of being the top overall pick.

In a recent interview with the NFL Network, Gurley discussed his status in fantasy football–sounding confident he’s worthy of going No. 1 overall in most leagues. Obviously, Gurley discussed how some owners are going to play it safe by taking Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton or Pittsburgh Steeelers wide receiver Antonio Brown, but fantasy owners–as well as the Rams–should love his confidence heading into the 2016 season.

Los Angeles knew they were taking a risk on Gurley after selecting him with the 10th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft after suffering a torn ACL as a junior at Georgia, but the gamble seems to be paying off so far. If last year is any indication of what to expect, Gurley could be in for a monster 2016 season with the Rams as the team will heavily rely on the running back for offensive production.

Gurley made a bold statement to fantasy owners about selecting him No. 1 overall, but don’t be surprised if a majority of owners listen to the running back’s advice considering how high the reward could end up being. As crazy as it sounds, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Gurley recorded double-digit touchdowns once again and even found a way to top 1,500 rushing yards during his second season with the Rams.
