The Los Angeles Rams agreed to release Nick Foles after just one disappointing season in which he started 11 games at quarterback.

After moving up in the 2016 NFL Draft to select Jared Goff at No. 1, it became obvious the Los Angeles Rams were ready to move on from Nick Foles after just one season, but unfortunately finding a trade partner was more difficult thanks to his ridiculous contract. Now, it looks like the Rams have officially moved on from Foles and cut their losses per the quarterback’s request.

Foles was released by Los Angeles on Wednesday and will immediately become an unrestricted free agent with the 2016 regular season right around the corner. The Rams originally acquired Foles from the Philadelphia Eagles in the Sam Bradford trade prior to the 2015 season, but it only took one season to realize how much of a mistake the move was.

What makes this situation even more frustrating for Los Angeles is their poor decision to give Foles a ridiculous two-year, $24.5 million extension before last season and the financial hit the team took because of the deal.

When comparing the statistics to his contract situation, it’s easy to see why teams were hesitant to acquire Foles from the Rams when considering he only threw for seven touchdown passes in 11 starts last year. Foles will most likely join another team as a backup before the regular season gets underway, but the fact that he was fighting for the third-string quarterback spot with the Rams shows how disappointing his career has become.
