Los Angeles Rams WR Nelson Spruce’s Knee Injury Hurts Chances of Earning Roster Spot
By Dan Parzych
Nelson Spruce lead the Los Angeles Rams in receiving against the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday during the team’s preseason opener.
It only took one night for wide receiver Nelson Spruce to become the type of player every Los Angeles Rams fan was rooting for to make the roster after leading the team in receptions against the Dallas Cowboys in the preseason opener. Unfortunately, it looks like Spruce’s chances of making the team’s 53-man roster just became a little bit more difficult thanks to a knee injury.

According to Liz Habib of Fox 11 in Los Angeles, Spruce will miss a few weeks due to a knee sprain–which is the last thing a player fighting for a roster spot wants to hear. Spruce was one of the unexpected stars from Saturday’s game for the Rams after catching six passes for 51 yards with one touchdown and after watching his stock skyrocket, things aren’t looking good for the former Colorado star.
With Tavon Austin and Kenny Britt seeming like locks for the top two spots at wideout, the competition for the rest of the wide receiver positions appeared to be a wide open race with the Rams having numerous players who seem capable of stepping up. Many considered Spruce a possibility to emerge as the team’s No. 3 or No. 4 wideout if he continued to play well in the preseason, but now head coach Jeff Fisher may find himself in a tough situation when the time comes for roster cuts.
Fisher knows how difficult it may be to hold a spot on the roster for Spruce after just seeing him in action for one preseason game, but it’s tough to ignore the 195 catches for 2,251 yards with 16 touchdowns he made during his final two seasons with the Buffaloes.

Hopefully, Spruce can find a way to return from this injury sooner rather than later for a last-minute effort to prove his value at wideout for the Rams.
