Jared Goff

After dealing with soreness in his non-throwing shoulder, Jeff Fisher made the right decision by resting Jared Goff in the second half of the preseason opener against the Dallas Cowboys. While this move was made for precautionary reasons, Goff seems ready to go for Saturday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs and it looks like the No. 1 pick will finally get the chance to prove himself with the first team.

Fisher discussed this week how he would like to see Goff play one or two series with the first-team offense–which is fair since Case Keenum is still the starter at this point in the preseason. If there’s anything to take away from the last couple of weeks, it would be Goff still has a long way to go when it comes to transitioning to the NFL, but the only way he’s going to learn and get better is experience.

Goff may be coming off a performance against Dallas in which he completed just 4 of 9 passes for 38 yards with one interception, but he deserves more credit than the numbers indicate. If it wasn’t for a few dropped passes by some of his wideouts along with better protection from the offensive line, Goff’s debut would have been much smoother.

Instead, the rookie will have to prove he’s made progress during Saturday’s game against the Chiefs.
