E.J. Gaines will make his preseason debut with the Los Angeles Rams after missing the entire 2015 season.

With the departure of Janoris Jenkins to the New York Giants, the Los Angeles Rams have a starting job open for the No. 2 cornerback alongside Trumaine Johnson. If all goes well, E.J. Gaines could benefit the most from the situation and the cornerback will look to make his case beginning Saturday night against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Gaines will make his preseason debut for the Rams against the Chiefs and it will be the first time over a year the cornerback will play in a game after sitting out the entire 2015 season. Last August, Gaines suffered a Lisfranc injury and after dealing with a minor injury at the beginning of camp, the third-year cornerback looks to make a strong case when it comes to the cornerback battle.

Los Angeles knows what Gaines brings to the table after he started 15 games for the team as a rookie in 2015, but the key factor will be whether he manages to stay healthy. While Coty Sensabaugh–who signed with the Rams this offseason after starting 15 games with the Tennessee Titans in 2015–seemed to be a likely candidate for the No. 2 cornerback spot, he did struggle in the preseason opener against the Dallas Cowboys trying to cover Dez Bryant.

Still, Gaines knows the starting job is his to lose at this point thanks to Sensabaugh’s performance and Rams fans should be excited to have their beloved cornerback on the field again–even if it is just another preseason game.
