Just when it seemed like the San Francisco 49ers couldn’t seem like more of a mess, this whole controversy with Colin Kaepernick happens.
If the reactions by fans in the preseason finale is any indication, Kaepernick could be in for a long 2016 season thanks to his actions as the booing will most likely stick when the quarterback throughout road games. The sad thing is Kaepernick hasn’t even made a strong case to win the starting job at quarterback as his shoulder was bothering him a few weeks ago.
At this point, the smart thing for San Francisco seems to be making Blaine Gabbert the starter heading into Week 1 over Kaepernick when considering how much practice he’s had with the first team in the offseason. Then again, it doesn’t really matter who wins the starting job at quarterback since it seems unlikely the 49ers will be in the conversation of contenders.
