Report: Denver Broncos Discussed Trade With Los Angeles Rams For Case Keenum
By Dan Parzych
The Denver Broncos reportedly reached out to the Los Angeles Rams about Case Keenum in August.
With Peyton Manning calling it a career after winning the Super Bowl in February, the Denver Broncos found themselves in an interesting situation at quarterback when considering the team had no idea who would be the starter in 2016. Apparently, the Broncos were so unsure about who would be running the offense, the team even considered the possibility of a trading with the Los Angeles Rams for Case Keenum.

Obviously, this never happened as Trevor Siemian earned his first career start on Thursday against the Carolina Panthers, but it’s still interesting to think about how the 2016 season would be different for the Rams if the trade went down.
Prior to Thursday’s game, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport discussed how the Broncos discussed trade talks with the Rams in the preseason in regards to Keenum. However, the trade talks seemed to disappear once Siemian’s performances during the preseason gave Denver enough confidence to make the second-year quarterback their official starter.
Plus, the Broncos never made an offer the Rams wouldn’t be able to refuse such as a high draft pick or key player–which made the possibility of a trade even more of a long shot.
In a way, Rams fans should be glad about the possible trade falling through when considering Keenum gives this team their best shot at competing in 2016. While Jared Goff is the future of this franchise at quarterback, the rookie showed in the preseason he’s still far from ready when it comes to running the offense and Los Angeles would have taken a step back in the wrong direction.
