Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley spoke about his blunt criticism of the team’s offense, while also backing his former head coach.

Todd Gurley stands by the comments he made about the Los Angeles Rams’ offense, and he also backed former head coach Jeff Fisher.

Gurley slammed the team’s offense after the Week 14 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, calling it a “middle-school offense.”

When asked about his blunt critique of the Rams offense, Gurley stood by his comments, per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk:

"“It definitely should be taken to heart [given] the way we played,” Gurley said. “Just way too many turnovers, way too many penalties, and we just can’t be doing that week after week.”"

While it wasn’t a good look on the team’s coaches, Gurley didn’t think it had anything to do with Fisher’s firing:

"“I didn’t really look at it that way,” Gurley said. “I didn’t care. Just speaking my mind, and speaking the truth of about how we looked.”"

Despite the rest of the football world agreeing with the move to let Fisher go, the Rams running back supported his former head coach:

"“It was tough,” Gurley told reporters regarding the firing of Fisher. “It was tough on a lot of guys. Coach Fisher, he did a great job. He brought everybody in. We loved him as a coach. We know a lot of other people didn’t. But, at the end of the day, we knew what he did for us. He brought us in. He’s the one who drafted me when nobody else believed in me. It definitely hit us hard, for sure.”"

Gurley’s honesty in his assessment of the offense was refreshing to say the least, especially when you consider the amount of excuses we’ve heard from Fisher during his tenure.

Clearly Fisher was a favorite of his players, as multiple Rams have expressed their disappointment with his firing. Sadly for the embattled head coach, it wasn’t enough to save his job.
