NFL Rumors: Los Angeles Rams Seeking Offensive-Minded Coach

The Los Angeles Rams will seek an offensive-minded coach to replace Jeff Fisher.

While this was to be expected, rumor has it the Los Angeles Rams are seeking an offensive-minded coach to replace Jeff Fisher.

Fisher was fired by the Rams on Monday and the new head coach search has begun. Many have speculated about this and that coach, but the Rams apparently have a good idea of which kind of head coach they are looking for.

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio says the Rams will wisely lean offense when looking for a new head coach:

"Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Rams will embark on a “wide-ranging” coaching search on Friday. The team will lean toward a coach with an offensive background, but the Rams haven’t ruled out the possibility of hiring a defensive coach."

Florio’s report also notes that the search was set to begin on Friday, so let the games begin.

The Rams have seen their offense fail badly this season. Offensively, the Rams rank 29th or worse in every major category, including dead-last in points and passing yards per game.

Adding to the need for an offensive head coach, rookie quarterback Jared Goff needs to be developed further, and the Rams need to get running back Todd Gurley going, as he is in the midst of a disappointing season that has seen him fail to rush for 100 yards in any game.

Florio lists New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan as a few possibilities.

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach and Monday Night Football analyst Jon Gruden has also been floated as a potential Fisher replacement, although he wasn’t included in Florio’s report.
