The Los Angeles Rams are in need of help at wide receiver and Brandon Marshall could be an option following his release from the New York Jets.

With the start of free agency less than a week away, the Los Angeles Rams are expected to make a run at numerous wide receivers to help make life easier for Jared Goff heading into his first full season as the starter at quarterback. Thanks to the New York Jets and their rebuilding process, Brandon Marshall is a name that could be added to the list of potential wide receivers for the Rams to target this offseason.

In a move that will save the team $7.5 million, the news broke on Thursday surrounding the Jets plans to release Marshall after two seasons. Throughout his career, there have been times when Marshall has been considered a distraction on and off the field, but that shouldn’t hold Los Angeles back from pursuing the veteran wideout when looking at his production over the last two years in New York.

Even though his numbers were down in 2016 due to the Jets dealing with quarterback issues of their own, Marshall displayed one of the best seasons of his career the year before with 109 catches for 1,502 yards to go along with 14 touchdowns. The fact that Marshall was able to record these kind of numbers at the age of 31 shows he still has plenty of good years left in him, and the addition of the wideout would easily help boost the Rams’ offense that ranked dead last in the league during the 2016 season by averaging 14 points per game.

Of course, the one downfall that could come into play is Marshall is at a point in his career where he most likely would prefer to join a strong contender. And when looking at how Los Angeles only won four games all of last season along with the fact that Sean McVay could experience some growing pains during his first year as head coach, would Marshall even consider the team a possible landing spot?

It seems like a long shot compared to some of the other teams that will be drawing interest, but that shouldn’t stop the Rams from at least making an attempt to land Marshall. For a team in which Tavon Austin is considered the No. 1 wide receiver, just the thought of Goff having a player like Marshall as his top target on offense is enough to make Los Angeles fans smile.
